Mr Reppington, a recluse who has been hiding himself away in the Golden Lion Hotel for several months, is the main talk
in Candelford. Dorcas is thrilled when he asks her to meet him at midnight in the hotel gardens. When Dorcas asks to
many questions their meeting soon comes to an end. Daniel discovers that he is actually missing concert pianist William
Bourne. Laura tries to convince Daniel not to reveal what he has found out. Ruby and Pearl decide to hold a fashion show
to increase their sales. Minne finds out that Ruby is thinking of running away. Dorcas finds out the real reason why
Bourne has been hiding away from society.
